The use of ICT to Help Visually Impaired People

MY topic is about "The use of ICT to Help Visually Impaired People"

As I am an employee in Ranibow comany,my mission is to make a presentation to the audience actually the voulnteers to guide them to help VI people
to use computer in easy ways.

RAINBOW Company is looking for perfect volunteer to take a lot of responsibility and to do the best job in provide help to a group of visually impaired people in using computer in easy ways.

Who are Visually Impaired People ?

The term ‘visual impairment’ covers a wide variety of conditions :
• "Partially sighted" indicates some type of visual problem has resulted in a need for special education.
• "Low vision" applies to all individuals with sight who are unable to read the newspaper at a normal viewing distance, even with the aid of eyeglasses or contact lenses.
• "Legally blind" indicates that a person has less than 20/200 vision in the better eye or a very limited field of vision.
• " Totally blind " people learn via Braille or other non-visual media.

How can ICT help?

The RAINBOW Company will provide alternative hardware and software features to make it easier for a VI person to use a computer.

Brightness
The light behind text on screen often makes it easier for someone with VI to read text on screen, rather than on the printed page.

Screen Magnifiers
Screen magnifiers enable users that are partially sighted to view selected areas of the screen in a manner similar to using a magnifying glass.

Print Size
Large print is often helpful to Visually impairment students, whether it be on screen or on printed-out documents.

Touch screens
The use of touch is very helpful because VI people do not constantly have to look from screen to keyboard and back again.

Mouse pointers
It is usually possible to change the shape and size of a mouse pointer, and show mouse trails to make it easier to locate the cursor on screen.

Speech recognition

Voice input has considerable benefits for VI peoples who can speak to their computer and produce correctly spelt documents.
So, it is easy method of accessing the computer.

There are two uses for speech recognition systems:

• Dictation
translation of the spoken word into written text.

• Computer Control
control of the computer, and software applications by speaking commands.
